Job Description

 

School Crossing Guards are an integral and important part of the community. These highly dedicated men and women work every school day to protect and assist children across busy crossings.

 

Major Responsibilities:

·         Assist elementary school children in crossing railway tracks at the Osler Street level crossing.

·         Wear mandatory safety equipment supplied by the City of Toronto.

·         Must be punctual and stay for the entire scheduled shift time.

·         Apply safety precautions and procedures in the performance of duties in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act policies of the City of Toronto.

Key Qualifications:

Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

  1. Observational skills and alertness.
  2. The ability to endure varying weather conditions.
  3. The ability to understand and follow instructions (written and oral).
  4. The ability to stand for an extended period of time.
  5. The ability to carry and raise a stop paddle.
  6. The ability to actively supervise children while crossing.

You must also have:

  • A good sense of judgment to be able to determine timing for safe crossing of railway tracks, where mechanical gates and signal flashers are present and engaged.
  • A courteous demeanour and the ability to deal with children, pedestrians, schools and the public.

  • Candidates will be required to pass a Vulnerable Sector Screening check prior to being hired for this position.
  • City of Toronto, PPF&A Crossing Guards work 2.67 hours per day (subject to change).
