Weekend events with road closures in Toronto

Several special events in Toronto this weekend will involve road closures as described below. Residents and visitors are encouraged to come out and enjoy these events. Businesses in the areas affected are open to pedestrian traffic but some roads will be closed to vehicles.

Festivals and other special events are important to the city, injecting hundreds of millions of dollars annually into Toronto’s economy, and they are enjoyed each year by local residents.

Seniors' safety in spotlight as Toronto Fire Services launches month of safety awareness programming

Toronto Fire Services kicked off its 11th annual Safety Awareness Month initiative today with a safe seniors symposium at Toronto City Hall.

Today's event in the council chamber opened with an address by Councillor Josh Matlow (Ward 22 St. Paul's), Toronto Seniors Advocate, and by Fire Services Division Chief Stephen Welowszky. Other Fire Services staff and the Toronto Police Service, Toronto Public Health, the City's Transportation Services division and the Office of Emergency Management made presentations. Interactive displays were another feature of the event.

Public Input Invited on Guidelines, Rules and Fees for Sidewalk Cafés and Displays in Toronto

The City of Toronto is reviewing application and permit fees, as well as the bylaws that govern sidewalk cafés and displays operating on the public right-of-way/sidewalks. The review includes looking at the space required for walking and movement for people with disabilities, and how those requirements will affect existing holders of café and marketing permits.

City Of Toronto Extends Permit Cancellations on Toronto Island Park Due To Flooding

Due to the continuing flood conditions on Toronto Island Park, permit cancellation has been extended to July 31. More than 300 permits for about 90 groups or individuals have been affected by flooding. City of Toronto staff are working with permit holders to provide any available options for rescheduling or relocating their events. Permits that cannot be rescheduled or relocated will be refunded through the usual processes. Permit holders should call 311 for assistance.

Toronto residents invited to share their views on multi-tenant houses

The City of Toronto is holding a series of public consultation meetings on proposed regulations for multi-tenant houses – commonly referred to as rooming houses.

Two different sets of meetings will be held. The first set of meetings will be held in five "pilot" areas where multi-tenant houses currently are not permitted, while the second set will take place in areas of the city where multi-tenant houses are permitted.

Registration for the City's summer swim and skate programs and After-school Recreation Care (ARC) programs will commence on three separate dates.

Registration for these programs begins at 7 a.m. on:
Saturday, June 3 for Scarborough and Etobicoke York
• Tuesday, June 6 for North York, Toronto and East York
• Monday, June 12 for After-School Recreation Care (ARC) programs for the upcoming 2017-18 school year for all districts.
