Police Services Release: Travelling in Toronto – Sept. 21 to 23

The Invictus Games 2017 are taking place September 23 to 30.

City staff are working in partnership with Toronto Police Services to provide a safe and secure environment for those attending the games, as well as those who live and work in the city. Various road closures will be in effect in accordance to the Toronto Police Service's security plan and to accommodate the transportation of competitors.

City of Toronto invites residents to share their views on possible changes to the Holiday Shopping Bylaw

The City of Toronto is reviewing the bylaw that governs holiday shopping and the impact of allowing grocery stores and other retailers that sell prepared meals to be open on public holidays.

Toronto's Holiday Shopping Bylaw states that most retail stores, including grocery stores, close on public holidays. There are some exceptions to the bylaw, including restaurants. Over time, grocery stores have changed their business models and now sell some food that is similar to restaurant fare, such as prepared and ready-to-eat meals.

Those recruits will be the first to graduate from the Toronto Fire Academy with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) professional qualifications in both fire prevention and public education. They will also graduate with full Firefighter qualifications.

Municipal Licensing and Standards and City Planning staff are holding a series of open houses on the proposed regulations for short term rentals. The term "short-term rental" describes rentals that occur over a short period of time (e.g. 28 days or less). Popular online platforms, such as Airbnb, Flipkey, Homeaway, VRBO and Roomorama facilitate bookings and payments for short-term rentals.

JOSEPH J. PICCININNI COMMUNITY RECREATION CENTRE WILL BE CLOSED FOR MAINTENANCE

Joseph J. Piccininni Community Recreation Centre will be closed for maintenance from Saturday, September 2nd to Sunday, October 1st, 2017. The health club will continue to operate with the regular schedule throughout the closure, as it can be safely accessed through the rear entrance.

Registration for the Etobicoke/York district begins on Saturday, September 9th at 7:00 a.m. Registering online continues to be the fastest and easiest way to register, but for clients who require support, in-person registration will be available from 7:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at the Etobicoke Civic Centre as advertised.

Signage has been posted at the facility advising residents of the impending closure and upcoming registration day for the Etobicoke/York district.

The registration office at Joseph J. Piccininni Community Centre will be open to the public 10am – 4pm, Monday through Friday, starting Tuesday, September 5th, 2017 to provide in-person registration support throughout the closure.
