The Toronto Seniors Forum is seeking members

The Toronto Seniors Forum is a diverse group of Toronto residents age 60 and above. The group is sponsored by the City of Toronto Social Development Finance and Administration Division. The Forum is comprised of 22 members who meet monthly to examine, advocate, and advise on seniors' issues that matter to older Torontonians.

Please find attached the Application as well as a Flyer to be posted broadly across the City. Applications will be reviewed by City staff and selected applicants will be invited to interview for membership.

Please note that during January and February, the two 24 hour warming centres are open 24/7 regardless of whether an Extreme Cold Weather Alert is in effect.

Extreme Cold Alert Issued for Toronto- Seek Shelter, Check on Loved Ones

 

Based on information from Environment Canada, Dr. David McKeown, Toronto’s Medical Officer of Health, has issued an Extreme Cold Weather Alert today for Toronto that will be in effect until further notice, as very low temperatures are expected overnight.

Exposure to cold weather can be harmful to your health. Hypothermia occurs when the body’s core temperature drops below 35°C and can have severe consequences, including organ failure and death. Frostnip and frostbite can also occur in cold weather when skin freezes.

CURRENT WEATHER FORECAST
Slight chance of a flurry or two will continue through to the evening. A new system approaches the region with periods of light snow beginning in the early overnight and lingering through to mid Sunday morning before tapering to flurries for the rest of the morning to the early afternoon. Total snowfall from 1-3cm by Sunday morning. Dry conditions return to the region for the remainder of the afternoon through to the evening. Windy conditions develop for Sunday with gusts up to 45 km/h.

CURRENT WEATHER FORECAST
Flurries and snow showers are possible through early this afternoon before ending. There is just the slight risk of a flurry through Friday evening through to Saturday but should be relatively dry. Temperatures should remain below freezing through Saturday morning before reaching a high near +1C Saturday afternoon. There is the potential for pockets of black ice through Friday afternoon, however with the gusty winds of 50-60 km/h through Friday afternoon roads should stay relatively dry when no precipitation is falling.
