City of Toronto Announces Labour Disruption Contingency Plan

Today, the City of Toronto announced its contingency plan for service delivery in the event of a labour disruption involving members of the Toronto Civic Employees' Union (TCEU) Local 416 (CUPE) and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 79.

"We remain very much committed to reaching negotiated settlements but we must also be responsible in preparing our operational contingency plans in advance of a potential labour disruption," said City Manager Peter Wallace. "As always, there is a high priority on maintaining public safety and ensuring the delivery of as many critical services as possible."

City of Toronto's opportunities for Family Day fun on February 15 include a skating party at Nathan Phillips Square

The City of Toronto encourages residents to enjoy Family Day on Monday, February 15 by taking advantage of City-run recreational facilities and historic attractions.

New for this year is a family skate party at Nathan Phillips Square, 100 Queen St. W., from 1 to 4 p.m. The family skate party, presented in partnership with RBC Royal Bank, Canadian Tire, and Tim Hortons, will feature DJ Fase. City of Toronto and 211 Ontario helpline asking residents to make the right call

Today marks National 211 Day. The City of Toronto is partnering with 211 Ontario helpline to educate residents on how to make the right call if they want or need help.

Residents are encouraged to call 211 for information about health, social and community services. For example, you can call 211 if you are a newcomer to Canada and are looking for employment training or you are concerned about a family member with an addiction and need information about available programs. You can also call 211 if you need information about a food bank, mental health support or a non-emergency police contact number.

Extreme Cold Alert Issued for Toronto- Seek Shelter, Check on Loved Ones

Based on information from Environment Canada, Dr. David McKeown, Toronto’s Medical Officer of Health, has issued an Extreme Cold Weather Alert today for Toronto that will be in effect until further notice.
Exposure to cold weather can be harmful to your health. Hypothermia occurs when the body’s core temperature drops below 35°C and can have severe consequences, including organ failure and death. Frostnip and frostbite can also occur in cold weather when skin freezes.

Forecast as of 7:45 am:
Snow becomes patchy and intermittent this morning but continues through the day. An additional cm or two is possible until 1900. The snow may mix with rain this afternoon. The snow becomes steadier this evening and accumulates an additional 1-3 cm before tapering to flurries Wednesday morning as it turns windy and colder.
